Guidelines for Approval of
Alternative Delivery Methods
Course Standards
- Course must provide mechanisms to ensure high levels
of interactivity and permit the attendee to participate or react with the presenter,
other attendees, or with the education software itself based on, or branching from,
responses by the participant. Quizzes, response tracking, user prompts, instant
messaging, time recorders, or other methods as determined by the Commission are
appropriate mechanisms.
- The provider must utilize a mechanism to monitor course
participation and completion. An attendee must complete the program in such a manner
that certification of attendance is controlled by the provider. The method of attorney
identification and verification must be explained to and approved by the Commission
in advance and any subsequent changes must be approved by the Commission.
- The course shall provide high quality written instructional
materials. These materials may be available to be downloaded or otherwise furnished
so that the attendee will have the ability to refer to such materials during, and
subsequent to, the seminar.
- The presentation shall include audio and/or video components
so each attendee will have the ability to hear and/or see an actual presentation
made by a speaker. Presentations of such poor audio and video quality that participants
cannot see or hear the content under reasonable conditions will not be accredited.
- Courses shall not be susceptible to a "fast forward
finish" by attendees. In other words, the accreditation process will include analysis
of courses that may be accessed and completed in immediate fashion for credit. Courses
of this nature will not be approved.
- Computer based education will be accredited for actual
time spent to a maximum of one hour of credit per activity and require a completion
certificate from the sponsor (in a format determined by the Commission) and the
Kansas Application Form for Technologically Based Programming.
- The target audience must be attorneys and instructed
by attorneys competent in the subject area.
Course Approval Conditions.
In addition to the above course standards, providers and programs are subject to
the following:
- Courses must be preapproved by the Kansas CLE Commission.
- Providers shall inform participants of minimum and/or
recommended system requirements to access program.
- In order to receive credit, each attendee must complete
an evaluation of the course in a format determined by the Commission.
- Verification of attendance must be submitted by the
provider within 30 days of attendee completion. Attendance reports will only be
accepted from the provider. Attendance reported by an individual attorney will not
be accepted.
- Providers shall furnish the Commission with password
and/or log-in capabilities for applied programs. Access will allow for review of
course control mechanisms, such as time recorders, interactive functionality, evaluations
and other relevant course programming. The activity may be audited by one or more
representatives of the Commission, free of charge, if requested by the Commission.
If the provider wishes to have materials or software returned after examination,
the provider must arrange and pay for shipping of those materials.
