Policy Statement for Cross
Discipline Programming
Supreme Court Rule 802 and 804 require that courses to be
approved must have "significant intellectual or practical content," and "pertain
to a recognized legal subject or other subject matter which integrally relates to
the practice of law, or to the professional responsibility or ethical obligations
of the participants." The CLE Commission receives applications for course approval
of cross-discipline programs that integrally relate to an individual attorney's
unique practice.
When such course applications are received from a sponsoring
organization, the Commission reviews whether the course is beneficial for practicing
attorneys from an objective standard. Consequently, the course will not be approved
unless it obviously pertains to a recognized legal subject or to the practice of
law. The application may be returned to the sponsor with instructions that the program
will be considered on an individual basis when submitted by an attending attorney.
Where an application for course approval is received from
a Kansas licensed attorney, and the course does not pertain to a recognized legal
subject, the attorney must complete the Individual Application - Interdisciplinary
form provided by the Commission.
